Al enterarse de que no tocaría con Slayer en el tour australiano, el prócer del doble bombo difundió el siguiente comunicado:
"Quiero personalmente disculparme con todos nuestros fans en Australia que han comprado tickets para el tour esperando verme en mi usual lugar en la batería.
Así que todos sepan la verdad, al final del día de negocios el 14 de Febrero, fue notificado que no estaré tocando la batería para el tour en Australia. Estoy entristecido, y para serles honesto estoy asombrado por la situación
El año pasado, descubrí que el 90% de los ingresos de los tours de Slayer estaban siendo deducidos como gastos incluyendo pago de salarios profesionales a la administración, costándole a la banda millones de dólares y dejando solo el 10% o menos para repartírnoslo entre los cuatro. En mi opinión, esta no es la manera en como el negocio de una banda debería de operar. Intente rectificarlo dejando que mis compañeros lo sepan, y Tom y yo contratamos auditores para ver qué era lo que sucedía, pero fui denegado de acceso a información detallada y a los documentos de soporte necesarios.
Pasé la Navidad y el Año Nuevo dándome cuenta de que he ido de gira por todo el mundo todo el 2012, pero hasta ahora no se me ha pagado (excepto un pequeño adelanto) o previsto una cuenta apropiada por un año completo de puro sudor y sangre. Además de esto, me dijeron que no se me pagaría hasta que firmara un contrato largo que no me daba seguridad escrita de cuanto o basándose en que, la administración deduciría las comisiones, tampoco se me proporcionaría acceso a los presupuestos financieros de discos para revisarlos. También se me prohibió hacer entrevistas o dar declaraciones relacionadas con la banda, en efecto una orden mordaza.
El ultimo lunes, me senté con Kerry y Tom para ensayar en Australia y para proponer un nuevo modelo de negocios que sentía que era el mejor en adelante para Slayer para confidencialmente protegerlo y nosotros poder hacer lo que mejor hacemos… tocar para los fans. Kerry dejó en claro que no estaba interesado en hacer cambios y dijo que si yo quería discutir ese punto, el encontraría otro baterista. El jueves, llegue a los ensayos a la 1 pm como fue programado, pero Kerry no apareció. Mas bien, a las 6:24 pm recibí un correo de los abogados diciendo que yo estaba siendo reemplazado para las fechas en Australia.
Me mantengo esperanzado de que podamos resolver nuestras cuestiones. Pero una vez más, sinceramente me disculpo con todos nuestros fans en Australia que gastaron su dinero esperando ver a los 3 de nosotros miembros originales de Slayer. Con muchas ganas de verlos en el futuro."

La respuesta de Slayer no se hizo esperar e hicieron público su correspondiente comunicado.

Slayer have released a statement regarding yesterday’s news that drummer Dave Lombardo had been fired from their Australian tour. While the band do not openly refute Lombardo’s version of events, they claim the substance and timeline of the drummer’s statement is incorrect and refuse to shed light on their side of story “out of respect” for the drummer.
The statement also confirms that Jon Dette will fill in on drums and suggests that the band had to replace Lombardo as the band were unable to “meet [Lombardo's] new demands in the short amount of time available prior to leaving for Australia”.
Yesterday Lombardo took to his Facebook page to announce the news of his firing and stated that he too was shocked by the turn of events. Lombardo wrote that his termination was a result of differing with Kerry King over the possibility of a new business model that allowed Slayer to better profit from their tours.
The news came as quite a shock given Slayer’s Australian tour commitments, which includes performing as part of Soundwave 2013 and a headlining date in Sydney.
Slayer’s statement (via Blabbermouth):
“SLAYER confirms that Jon Dette will drum for the band on its Australian tour that starts this Saturday, February 23 in Brisbane. As regards Dave Lombardo’s Facebook post, SLAYER does not agree with Mr. Lombardo’s substance or the timeline of the events, except to acknowledge that Mr. Lombardo came to the band less than a week before their scheduled departure for Australia to present an entirely new set of terms for his engagement that were contrary to those that had been previously agreed upon. The band was unable to reach an agreement on these new demands in the short amount of time available prior to leaving for Australia. There is more to the account than what Mr. Lombardo has offered, but out of respect to him, SLAYER will not be commenting further. SLAYER is grateful to its Australian fans for their understanding of this unfortunate last-minute change, and very much looks forward to seeing them at these shows.”
